Our Products: Lighting

by Sarah on 29. January 2013 in Design | Our Products
We’re excited that with our newest addition of white lights to our collection, we offer over 70 different lighting options! Not only are our lights a wonderful accent for a nursery, many of our customers are incorporating our lights beyond baby’s room and into their kitchens, living rooms, and other areas of the home.

:: OPTIONS

We offer 3 Main Lighting Options in a variety of Oilo motifs and colors.

Visit our lighting page here to see all of our variations. We are also able to do special orders for varying sizes and with your own fabric. Give us a call for more details!

:: FEATURES

Each light shade is handmade from Oilo’s signature 100% woven fabric.

A sheet of white encloses each cylinder and diffuses the light…helping to cast a soft glow, and preventing light from glaring in your eyes.

When selecting lighting in your home, it's important to choose one that puts off good light.  Our large cylinder lights require three 60 watt bulbs, compared to most lights out there that only use one.

Our lights require hardwiring (professional installation recommended), but we can also swag it so that it can plug right into an outlet. A swag is a great option if you live in an apartment and can’t make holes in the walls.

Our cords extend up to 55”, making it possible to choose the perfect height for ceilings that are low, high, and everything in between.  One dramatic lighting option is to hang more than one light in a cluster at different heights.  Many customers also enjoy lining up several of our small cylinder lights over a bar or countertop.

Like all Oilo products, our lights are proudly made in the USA!

:: NEW!

We’re happy to introduce our white motif as the newest line in our lighting collection.  Simply accented with a thin band in classic Oilo colors, these lights are a perfectly simple accent for any room.

Small Cylinder

Large Cylinder

Large Double Cylinder

To celebrate this addition to our family of Oilo lighting, we’re offering our blog readers a special 20% off all of our lights! Enter code: LIGHT20  at checkout!

"We absolutely love our Oilo glider! It is one of our favorite pieces in the room and has such a unique cool design that is actually very comfortable. Coupled with the very pretty design of our Oilo Freesia bedding, both are standout pieces that truly make our dream nursery extra amazing!,” said Martinez and Gonzales-Jones.

We were so thrilled to work with Little Crown founders Naomi Alon and Gerri Panebianco on this latest celebrity nursery. Based in Los Angeles and Orange Counties, Little Crown Interiors is a highly specialized interior design firm focused solely on nursery and child spaces.  Their accomplishments include creating stunning celebrity nurseries, spearheading philanthropy projects (particularly the “Hope” Crib, which was designed to benefit Breast Cancer Research), editing as nursery design experts for the industry's finest magazines, websites and blogs, as well as serving as regular design experts for the mega-website Project Nursery.  Find Little Crown Interiors online at www.littlecrowninteriors.com

Oilo on HGTV

by Sarah on 17. April 2012 in As Seen In | Design | Our Products | Trends

How exciting! Oilo was featured on the popular HGTV blog, Design Happens this week in an article titled, Online Obsession for Nursery Design: Oilo Studio written by Brian Patrick Flynn.  Brian is an interior design expert- known in the design field for his bold use of color and graphic statements. His indoor and outdoor spaces are often featured in leading American home and garden publications, he is a featured HGTV blogger, and you may also know him from HGTV’s series, Decorating Cents.  We were thrilled to get a fantastic review from such a design pro!
Here’s a bit of what Brian had to say about our products:
“…When it comes to baby rooms that break the mold, those outfitted with shades of green, grey and/or taupe are fresh, surprisingly classic and also pretty darn adaptable; all three colors can grow with a child, and take on totally different characteristics — both feminine and/or masculine. Much to my surprise, I stumbled across an excellent online source for nursery furniture, Oilo Studio. Designers, parents, and designing parents are certain to become fans as well. Although the company offers everything from crib bedding to throw pillows to wall art, I especially fell in love with their gliders and pendants. Anyone else looking to trick out their own tot’s digs, or designers/decorators in the mood for something new, take a look at all Oilo Studio has to offer.”
The fabric-covered cylinder pendants are graphic and certain for a baby to rest his/her eyes on with adoration, plus they’re classic in style — an excellent combination to add something to a nursery which parents can enjoy every bit as much as their mini-me’s.”

“The very first item which drew me to Oilo Studio was the Cohen Glider which is a mashup of transitional, Hollywood Regency and contemporary styles..."
"...Check out its low-sloping arms; this detail is fantastic for spatially-challenged nurseries since the low, light appeal of its lines seem to take up less visual space.”

“Then there’s the Penelope Glider. Gigantic hit..HUGE here with my clients and colleagues in Los Angeles. Perhaps what resonates so well with people is the fact that it’s simple and traditional, yet with a twist. Its wingback style is totally classic; however, its clean upholstery and the graphic impact of its contrasting welt cord make it totally modern.”

“When it comes to original prints, Oilo Studio has it down to a science. Their patterns are medium to large in scale, super easy for a baby to read from different vantage points in a room.”

Designing with Textured Wall Coverings

by Dorte on 16. November 2011 in As Seen In | Design | Our Favorites

Ever heard of a wall treatment called Anaglypta?  This charming wall treatment has been around since the late 1800’s, and its application still continues to create a powerful character in any space today.

This embossed wall covering provides a dimensional texture, and is applied as is any wallpaper and transformed with paint or a faux treatment.  In turn, it creates an incredible focal point in any room!

In 2002, Inhabit began to introduce a very Eco-Friendly green product, which they call Wall Flats.  We love this product so much that we incorporated it into our 2011 ABC Kids Expo market display.

You can see more images of our display here.

I have designed with this product for many years to create an atmosphere and mood for many unique spaces.  Here are a few additional images from Inhabit so you can see just how matchless this product is!

Whether you decide to make textured wall coverings a main focal point or a subtle backdrop- it’s a total win-win!  For more ideas on how to integrate this wonderful feature into a variety of spaces, visit Inhabitliving.com…we LOVE their concepts and the eco-friendliness!

Designing with Carpet Tiles

by Dorte on 1. November 2011 in As Seen In | Design | Our Favorites

When decorating a space, flooring should never be an afterthought! It can have a huge impact on a room, and the right flooring can create just the atmosphere you’re striving for!  Today, great looking floors are in abundance and within everyone’s reach.  One of my favorite flooring options is the use of carpet tiles.

With a few simple tools and minimal cutting…carpet tiles can be used to create a variety of flooring motifs.  I absolutely love the type of freedom that comes with decorating with carpet tiles… plus they are chic, eco- friendly, happy, and modern.  What’s not to love?

In the Beginning: Oilo's Design Vision

by Dorte on 21. May 2011 in Design | Our Ideas

In the beginning conceptual stages of Oilo, we always knew that we wanted our designs to be clean and contemporary.  Our aim was to design shapes, styles, and colors that would set a radiant mood. One of our design goals was to create an abstract artistic effect to each of our collections, and we worked to make a sophisticated statement with every single design element. Creating core pieces for a nursery meant catering to a room that is a very personal and precious space- and we worked to honor that with every decision made.

The color Spring Green brought a real beginning to Oilo.  As one of our first concepts, it was a driving force in our dream of Oilo becoming a reality. We fell in love with the clean and fresh feeling it brought with it, and how the lemon lime citrus tone seemed to carry the vibrancy of being filtered through sunlight. Our inspiration was taken to a new level with this color, as it seemed to breathe everything we intended Oilo to be about. It was comfortable, it was clean, and it brought with it a real sense of serenity and relaxation.  As our collections evolved, we worked to recreate the same powerful impact with all of our colors.

As our design process continued, stripes came into play as we used large smart stripes as a contrasting accent. The large smart stripes became a prominent detail on our cushions, pillows, and skirts.  With each collection, we chose to use a simple, yet bold two-tone design, and our designs took on a very distinguished look and feel.  We continued with our use of contrasting accents as we added pipe details on our gliders, pillows, and bumpers.

Our collections seemed to be creating their own harmonious atmosphere.  With each new collection, there was a strong design response…bold, yet simple- commanding, yet subtle. We felt the spilling over of delightful details that we could incorporate into other products…capitalizing on the scale of the design and the potential for creating so much more! Soon, we had lighting, pillows, bedding, wall art, gliders, and poufs- all added as part of our overall design.  The directions we found ourselves going with these concepts seemed endless! We started to see that with careful groupings of fabric patterns and accompanying groupings of furniture, our designs held the cards for creating a truly cohesive sanctuary.  We were excited as our designs all created different atmospheres… while at the same time, provided a consistent mood and tone perfect for a peaceful haven.

Our initial dreams for Oilo had come full circle…with the result being what you see in our collections today!

About Oilo

Though not an actual word, Oilo’s roots are steeped in the Hawaiian words, “lio” (small sprout) and “ho’oilo” (the cool, rainy season).

Every autumn, the Hawaiian sun weakens and tropical trade winds usher in magnificent storms that blanket the islands in a cool, cleansing rain. It’s not beach weather. It’s curl up on the sofa with a good book weather. It’s wrap your baby up tight and rock her to sleep in the moonlight weather. Mostly, it’s about sitting back, relaxing, and enjoying the serenity of life.

That is why Oilo exists. We’re about turning your nursery into the most comfortable, clean, and carefree sanctuary in your home. Because a more enjoyable nursery, means a more constant and enduring bond between you and your baby — or, as we like to say, your little sprout.
